The Southern Miss football team returned to the game field at M.M. Roberts Stadium Saturday morning for its second time in full pads during fall camp.
Again, the Golden Eagles worked under sunny skies for the duration of the 2 hour, 30 minute workout.
For first-year coach Will Hall, the Golden Eagles took positive another step in getting ready for their season opener Saturday, Sept. 4, at South Alabama.
“So eight days in now and we are going to have an off day tomorrow,” said Hall. “We had some good short yardage (periods) today and saw some good physical play (during the session).”
One aspect of the game that the Golden Eagles continually work each day on is the special teams area.
“We had our normal deal in which we had two periods plus field goal and we are getting better at field goal block,” said Hall of the special teams portion of the practice. “Our kickers are competing with (Andrew) Stein and Briggs (Bourgeois) and over the last few days I thought Briggs had a little bit better day and Stein is pushing him right there.
“We worked kickoff return today because we want to be explosive in that unit, and like I said, we play our best players in the kicking game.”
After an off day, the Golden Eagles return to the practice fields on Monday morning.
