Franklinton’s football team spent a day helping different organizations in the area by doing community service at the end of last month.

“Our community service is something we take great pride in,” Franklinton coach Jonathan Barber said. “Giving back to the community that supports us so much and having pride in our community is important for our players to understand. We get a lot of practice in in camp, but that day is my favorite part of camp.”

The team went to several places, including First Baptist Church in Franklinton, Centenary United Methodist Church, Holy Family Catholic Church, the Washington Parish Fairgrounds, Washington Parish Food Bank and Riverside Medical Center.

Franklinton has done community service in three of the last four years. They did not do community service last year because of the pandemic.

“The kids buy in and they do a good job,” Barber said. “They know what’s expected. It’s a good sense of pride when you can give back.”

The community service was capped off with a devotion at First Baptist Church and the team was fed pizza.
