Washington Parish President Richard “Ned” Thomas Jr. officially declared a state of emergency in the parish on Friday.
In a proclamation, Thomas wrote “a state of emergency is hereby declared to exist parish-wide as a precautionary measure due to the anticipated impacts of Tropical Storm Ida, the effects of which could threaten the lives and property of the citizens of the parish.”
The proclamation also notes that the director of the Washington Parish Government Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is authorized to undertake any activity authorized by law which she deems appropriate in response to this declaration. Finally, it states that all departments, commissions boards, agencies and officers of the state, or any political subdivision thereof, are authorized and directed to cooperate in actions the state may take in response to the effects of these weather systems.
