Winnie Ruth M. Byrd, a resident of Bogalusa, age 89, born on Sept. 7, 1925, in Bogalusa, passed away on Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa.

She was a lifelong member of Union Avenue Baptist Church. She worked 17 years as a ward clerk at the Bogalusa Medical Center.

She was a faithful wife and loving mother to three sons, Thomas Clifford Byrd Jr. (Dianne) of Zachary, La., James Morgan Byrd Sr. (Vonceil) of Bogalusa and Joseph Edward Byrd (Pat) of Bogalusa; one sister, Carrie Mae Griffin (Hoyle) of Bogalusa; grandchildren, Dana Byrd Tomlinson (Eddie), Sherry Byrd Williams (Chucky), Jimmy “Bear” Byrd (Jala), Steven Byrd (Laura), Darin Byrd (Susan), Dustin Byrd (Jill), Devin Byrd, Heather Byrd Schaeffer (Brad) and Hollie Byrd Gaines (Tim); and 17 great-grandchildren, Ciara Tomlinson, Jarrett Williams, Joseph Williams, Jonah Williams, Ryan Byrd, Cameron Byrd, Austin Stuart, Grayson Stuart, Nathan Byrd, Lauren Byrd, Emily Byrd, Elyssa Byrd, Elijah Byrd, Regan Schaeffer, Greysen Schaeffer, David Gaines and Brooklyn Gaines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Clifford “T.C.” Byrd Sr.; her parents, Asa L. Morgan and Carrie Dykes Morgan; and two sisters, Christine Camp and Mavine Brown (T.H.).

Visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Visitation will continue at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The funeral services will be at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Chad Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens.
