Bowling Green advances in overall tourney

Bowling Green’s Lady Buccaneers rebounded from their tough loss in the Class AA title game by downing Carroll Academy, 76-34, in the team’s first game of the overall tournament at Mississippi College Tuesday.
The Lady Buccaneers took a 38-22 lead into halftime and then essentially put the game away in the third quarter by outscoring Carroll, 20-4, to grab a 58-26 lead heading into the final period.
Reagan Moody scored 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting to lead Bowling Green’s scoring attack. Moody also connected on two of the Lady Bucs’ eight 3-pointers. Moody finished with six rebounds and a steal.
Kristina Jerrell put up 17 points on six of 13 from the floor. She knocked down three of her six 3-point attempts. Jerrell recorded six rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Ashley Foret posted nine points on 4-of-5 shooting, including a trey. Foret had five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Katelin Junkins posted eight points while hitting on four of her seven field-goal attempts. She also grabbed two rebounds and dished out an assist.
McKinley Seal totaled six points, six rebounds, two assists, a pair of steals and she blocked a shot.
Natalie Michel added four points, and hit both of her shot attempts while grabbing a rebound and making a steal.
Hollie Waskom, Hallie Robertson and Sydney Watson finished with three points each. Waskom had five assists, four steals and two boards. Robertson recorded an assist, and Watson added three assists and a steal.
Mason Edwards contributed two points, a rebound and an assist.
Bowling Green had a good night overall.
Offensively, 10 players scored for the Lady Buccaneers. The team hit 55.6 percent of its field goals (30 for 54). Of the 30 field goals, 18 of them had an assist.
Bowling Green hit on 54.3 percent of its 3-point attempts (eight for 15), and it was did a good job from the free-throw line at 80 percent (eight of 10).
Defensively, Bowling Green made 12 steals and blocked a shot.
The win put the Lady Buccaneers in the overall semifinals. The team enters with a 34-7 record.
Bowling Green is back in action this afternoon at 1 p.m., and plays Madison-Ridgeland Academy.
The winner of this game plays for the overall title tomorrow at 1 p.m.
In order to qualify for the overall tournament, teams had to be one of the top three teams from the class tournament.
