Samuel Moses

Samuel Ervin “Ham” Moses was born March 23, 1932, to the union of the late Mr. Arcell Moses and Mrs. Mary Weary Moses in Varnado.

He was married to Catherine Mingo, and to this union two children were born, the Rev. Jessie (Chinesia) Moses and Geraldine Moses. Other siblings are Terry Ray Crain, Annie Lee Crain, Charlette Crain, Ervin Crain, Christopher Crain and Ivena Crain, children of Mary Jeanette Crain. He is also survived by one sister, Louhenry Banks; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Samuel was baptized at an early age at New Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Owens.

He attended Jones Creek Elementary School and was a lover of music.

He departed this life on a Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 4, 2015. “An Angel of the Lord came to claim the soul of one we love so dear.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arcell and Mary Moses; three brothers, William, A.C. and Mack Moses; and seven sisters, Wilma Collins, Mary Jane Youngblood, Marcella Barnes, Selena Jefferson, Elize Denny, Elizabeth Youngblood and Catherine Boone.

Cook-Richmond is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be at New Zion Baptist Church on Jones Creek Road in Varnado at 10 a.m., and the service will follow at 11 a.m.
