Mr. Charles “Sonny” Statham Sr., a native and long-time resident of Bogalusa, passed away Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, at his residence in Zachary, at the age of 86.

Mr. Statham worked for over 30 years in Aerospace, supporting major programs such as X-15, Apollo, & Space Shuttle.

Mr. Statham is survived by his loving wife of eight years, Ruth Hemphill Statham of Zachary; two sons, Edward Otis Statham of Bogalusa, and Charles Leslie Statham Jr. of Bogalusa; four grandchildren, Amanda Statham of Austin, Texas, Sarah Statham of Austin, Christopher Statham of Houston, Texas, and Charles Leslie Statham III of Houston; and his sister, June Rayburn Statham of Bogalusa. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Statham was preceded in death by his first wife of 60 years, Mary Sue Gatlin Statham; his parents, Otis and Mary Alice Statham; and a brother, Otis Statham.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel from 9 a.m. until time for the services at 11 a.m., with Chaplain Jeff Mitchell officiating the service. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.
