The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns won the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, 36-21, over the University of Marshall last Saturday at the Ceasars Superdome.
“First thing, I thank God for letting me make it this far,” Ragin’ Cajuns defensive lineman Andre Jones said. “Shoutout to the people that have been close to me — family and friends. That was a blessing, playing on an NFL pro stage. That was special. That sack/fumble was crazy.”
Jones’ sack/fumble came with 1:22 left in the fourth quarter in a 36-21 game. Grant Wells recovered the fumble to basically seal the game.
Jones, who is a 2017 Varnado High School graduate, made four tackles in the game with two for a loss, a sack and a forced fumble.
The game was close throughout, as Louisiana was trailing 21-16 through three quarters. Louisiana outscored Marshall, 20-0, in the fourth quarter.
Until the Ragin’ Cajuns went up 36-21, the biggest lead by either team was only eight.
This season, Jones made 60 tackles with 9.5 for a loss, six sacks, four broken up passes, five quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and two fumbles recovered over 14 games.
The Ragin’ Cajuns went 13-1 this year. The only loss was in the opener to the University of Texas, 38-18, before Louisiana ran off 13 in a row.
