Following back-to-back 20-point efforts in a weekend split, South Alabama’s Jay Jay Chandler was selected as the Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Jaguars graduate student guard Jay Jay Chandler posted back-to-back 20-point outings to average 23.0 points in a weekend split with in-state rival Troy. The Katy, Texas, product averaged 23.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals on the week. Chandler shot 89 percent from the charity stripe, 59 percent from the field and 57 percent from three-point range. The graduate student’s 26 points in an 82-63 South Alabama victory on Thursday were a career-high. With Chandler joining Jaguar teammate Charles Manning Jr. as a Player of the Week selection, South Alabama becomes the first Sun Belt program will multiple players honored this season.
