Bradley Makuvire claimed the top spot in the Southland Conference rankings in the one-mile race, running a 4:10.10 for the Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team Sunday at the South Alabama Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Makuvire, a sophomore, also had a terrific showing in the 3k race, finishing in a time of 8:19.53 to move up second in the conference standings in the event. The Zvishavane, Zimbabwe native placed second in the one-mile and third in the 3k Sunday.

On the women’s side SLU’s Chelsea Harrington had a nice performance in the long jump. The junior transfer from Nicholls threw 19 feet, 5.25 inches (5.92m) to win the event Sunday.

The men’s 4×400 also won the title Sunday as SLU’s Damon Morton, Eugene Omalla, Gerson Porzo, Agerian Jackson took home the championship.

Wjuantereuas Rodrique finished second in the men’s long jump. The St. Amant, Louisiana native jumped 23-2 (7.06m).

Next up, SLU will travel to Ames, Iowa to compete in the Iowa State Classic Friday and Saturday Feb. 11-12.
