Mary Pospisl

Mary Ruby Pospisil, 95, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Alice, on Dec. 27, 2014.
She was born in Union, La., on Feb. 11, 1919. She grew up in Bogalusa, where she graduated valedictorian from Bogalusa High School and was elected May Queen of her senior class.
She and her husband Al owned and operated Pospisil’s Jewelers for many years before moving to Chattanooga with their five daughters in 1962.
Ruby and her husband were employed at Fischer Evans Jewelers, where Ruby was a registered bridal consultant for 48 years, retiring at age 91.
She was an avid reader, bridge player and champion bowler but mostly loved getting together with her large family for birthday and holiday celebrations.
She was a longtime member of Sts. Peter and Paul Basilica and the Ladies Auxiliary Guild.
She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Stella Letulle; brother, Henry Letulle Jr.; and husband, Alvin Charles Pospisil.
Ruby leaves behind her devoted sister, Anna Louise Penton of Bogalusa; daughters, Alice Cooper (Raleigh), Janis Scoville (Bill), Sally Smith (David), Susie Millard (Mike) and Ellen Bullard (Doug); grandchildren Brent Cooper (Stephanie) of Ocoee, Fla., Darin Cooper (Kristie) of Kenner; Maggie Shermer (John) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jennie Smith (Cameron) of Bozeman, Mont., Franklin Smith of Banner Elk, N.C., and Stewart Smith (Kristen), Louellen Raulston (Walter), Molly Connolly (Zack), Mary Ballard (Ewing), Nick Millard, Jace Bullard (Ashley) and Annie Bullard, all of Chattanooga.
Her nephews are Michael Letulle (Barbara) of New Orleans, David Penton (Lynn), Bailey Penton of Chattanooga and Paul Penton.
She is also survived by her niece, Angela Penton Hines (Scott); and her son, Frank, of Bogalusa.
Her great-grandchildren include Suzanne and David Cooper, Rebecca Shermer, Tucker and Torin Smith, Harper Grace Smith, Jayme Ballard and Gavin Cooper.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Sts. Peter and Paul Outreach Program, 214 E. Eighth St., Chattanooga, TN 37402.
Visitation was at Sts. Peter and Paul Basilica in Varallo Hall on Jan. 2 from 10 a.m. until noon, followed by a Mass at noon.
Internment took place at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
Arrangements were by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
