Varnado’s Lewis, Washington capture event in regionals

Varnado’s Jamari Lewis and Zamoriyon Washington both captured an event in the Region 3-2A Meet that was held at Tad Gormley Stadium last Wednesday.
Washington won the 100 meters with a time of 11.46 seconds.
Lewis was victorious in the javelin with a throw of 139 feet, 4 inches.
Pine’s Zack Thomas was 11th at 103-2.
Last Wednesday’s meet was a qualifier. The top three from each event will head to the state meet. The Class 2A state meet will take place on Friday at Bernie Moore Track Stadium on the campus of LSU. Varnado and Pine are the only two schools in Washington Parish that are in Class 2A.
Washington came in fourth for the 200 with a time of 23.27. Kentwood’s Jermaine Brown won in 22.57.
Varnado’s Quovadis Bickham was fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 41-9. Kentwood’s Carmel Taylor was victorious at 43-7.5.
Bickham was also sixth in the high jump and long jump. Bickham high jumped 5-6 and long jumped 20-5.5, while teammate Devonte Magee was ninth in the long jump at 18-7.75. Kentwood teammates won the two events with Jer’michael Carter topping the high jump at 6-0 and Brown long jumping 21-4.
Pine’s Samuel Magee was eighth and ninth in the 300 hurdles and 110 hurdles respectively with times of 46.65 and 19.51. Magee ran 11th in 19.68. Northlake Christian School’s Ollie Brumfield won both events, running the 110s in 15.97 and the 300s in 41.22.
Pine’s 4×200 relay team was ninth in 1 minute, 41 seconds. The team included Magee, Benard, Thomas and Russ Creel. Kentwood won in 1:30.
Pine’s Kirby Martin ran 11th in the 800 with a time of 2:29. Isidore Newman’s William Moore won in 2:09.
In the girls, Pine’s Cameron Magee was eighth in the 800 with a time of 3:00. St. Thomas Aquinas’ Breanna Becerra won in 2:24.
Varnado’s Gabrielle Wiggins was 11th for the long jump and 100 hurdles. She long jumped 13-8.25 and ran 22.08 in the 100 hurdles. Amite’s Jalencia Pierre won the long jump at 18-5.25, while Louise S. McGehee’s Sarah Blessey won the 100 hurdles in 17.70.
