According to a Facebook post on the Bogalusa Police Department page, on Friday Jan. 20, 2023, in the hours just before midnight, officers with the Bogalusa Police Department came into contact with Chas Smith, a 21 year old male, who was known to have multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest in connection with two shootings that occurred in Bogalusa in the summer of 2022. The post says that detectives sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Smith in connection with the shooting death of 14-year old Landan Williams, which occurred on June 26, 2022, around 9:30 p.m., in the 1600 block of Main Street. The post says that detectives also sought arrest warrants for Smith, with his connection to a shooting that occurred on July 27, 2022, around 11:30 p.m., in the 1100 block of West 7th Street. The post says that neither of the two victims were hit in the shooting on West 7th street, however, there was property damage. The post says that Smith was apprehended without incident and booked into the Bogalusa City Jail on Multiple Warrants. The post says that Smith was later transferred to the Parish jail in Franklinton, pending a bond hearing.
