Bogalusa’s Thompson, Pine’s Magee going to state

Bogalusa’s Haikem Thompson and Pine’s Samuel Magee are headed to the class 3A state meet after their performance in the Region 3-3A Meet that was held on Wednesday at Jewel Sumner.
Thompson made it to state in the javelin with a throw of 155 feet, 7 inches. Teammate James Owens came in fifth at 142-4. Berwick’s Evan Crappell at 158-10.
Magee is going to state in the 110-meter hurdles after running in 17.47 seconds. Berwick’s Gavin White won in 15.64.
Wednesday’s meet was a qualifier. The top three from each event made it to state. The Class 3A state meet is May 5 at Bernie Moore Track on the campus of LSU.
Bogalusa and Pine are the only Washington Parish teams in Region 3-3A.
In order to compete in regionals, athletes had to come in the top four of their events in their district meet.
More athletes from Bogalusa and Pine competed in regionals.
Lyrian Hart came in fifth place for the shot put with a distance of 38-4. Berwick’s Gage Toups won at 42-3.
Averyon Wiley came in sixth in the long jump at 18-9.75. St. James’ Khylon Brown won in 21-5.25.
Zach Thomas ran eighth in the 200 in 24.40, as E.D. White’s Nathaniel Thompson won in 22.09.
Pine’s 4×100 relay team was eighth in 46.27. The team included Samuel Magee, Owens, Wiley and Thomas Benard. E.D. White won in 42.63.
Hart came in eighth for the discus with a throw of 94-9. Toups won at 137-1.
Owens was 10th for the 100 with a time of 11.80. Jewel Sumner’s Rodney Brown won in 11.01.
Bogalusa’s Christian Gable was 10th in the 400. Sophie B. Wright’s Dallas Hughes won in 50.96.
