This is part of the Meet the Candidate series for the upcoming elections.
The candidate featured here is Maurice McCraney who is running for Judge, Council Member District 2.
Why did you decide to run?
I decided to run because of my concerns about the pollution of the Bogue Chitto River and no effort to clean it up. Also, there are no public boat launches on the river for the citizens of Washington Parish to access the river. Also, the progress of the growth of the parish does not seem to be in step with the citizens’ ideas of what they wish the parish to become.
What is your occupation/current employer?
I am a retired offshore crane operator, tree surgeon and a sawyer.
What makes you the right choice?
I am honest and willing to go to bat for the people of the community and I am not obligated to any group but the citizens of the parish.
What do you want to accomplish if elected?
I want to stop the pollution on the Bogue Chitto River and give access to the public.
I want to pass ordinances to make sure the parish is not overrun by subdivisions and to bring businesses to the parish.
I want to make sure the citizens of the parish are more informed about what is going on in the parish.
