Bogalusa Police Successfully Negotiate Ave B Bridge Suicide Threat

BOGALUSA, LA – On December 7, 2023, the Bogalusa Police Department received reports of a male individual threatening to jump from the Ave B bridge near Willis Ave. Officers were dispatched to the scene and negotiated with the individual for about an hour. Eventually, the situation was resolved peacefully and the individual was escorted safely from the bridge to Our Lady of the Angels emergency room for mental health treatment. Assistant Chief Troy Tervalon of the Bogalusa Police Department emphasized the department’s commitment to handling such situations with care and professionalism. The Bogalusa Police Department also reminds the community that the national suicide prevention hotline, available at 988, offers confidential support for individuals experiencing mental health crises.
