Ben’s Ford Christian School and Bowling Green School take to the field Thursday for their spring game at Wilkinson County Christian Academy in Woodville, Miss.

The scrimmage features four teams and is more of a jamboree type of format.

Each game has a 20-minute running clock until the final two minutes when they go with the standard clock rules.

The ball will be moved 35 yards for punts.

There will be no kickoffs, and teams can attempt extra points, but there will be no rush.

Besides the Eagles and Buccaneers, the event features Wilkinson County Christian Academy and Prentiss Christian School.

Games begin at 6 p.m. and are set to start every 30 minutes.

Ben’s Ford and Prentiss get things under way at 6 p.m., followed by WCCA and Bowling Green.

At 7 p.m., the two schools from Washington Parish hook up before Wilkinson County and Prentiss battle each other.

The evening wraps up with Bowling Green and Prentiss at 8 p.m., followed by the conclusion at 8:30 p.m. with Ben’s Ford and Wilkinson County.

Ben’s Ford and Bowling Green have coaches entering their second year at the helm of the their respective teams.

“We’re excited for Thursday,” Ben’s Ford coach Cole Holden said. “It’s been two weeks of practice. The coaches and the kids are kind of tired of practicing and want to face somebody else besides ourselves. We have a lot of new kids because we had a big senior class last year (nine seniors). I’m anxious to see our guys fly around and be physical.”

Holden said one of the things he is looking at tomorrow night is personnel.

“We can rotate some guys around and see who needs to be where,” Holden said. “We can also find out our strengths and weaknesses.”

For Bowling Green, coach David Currier said they feel like they’ve got some guys that can play.

“We’ve got a lot of people returning,” Currier said. “We’ve got some guys that didn’t start last year that will be starting this year. Defensively, I think we’re going to be solid. We’ve got nine guys back defensively.”

Currier said the team was young last season with just five seniors.

“We’ve got some experience this year and more depth,” Currier said. “This is kind of an evaluation tool for us. It’s really big for a school like Bowling Green, who doesn’t have a lot of numbers, because we can’t go live at practice too much.”

Currier said offensively he wants to see his team control the ball.

“I think we’ve got a couple of kids that can make things happen on the run,” Currier said. “We’ll be looking at our passing game. I’m not sure which way we’re going with our offense as far as gun or under center.”

Ben’s Ford tallied a 6-4 regular season record last year. The Eagles football team reached the playoffs for the first time history but lost to Silliman Institute, 40-0, in the opening round.

Bowling Green School is coming off of a 2-7 season.
