Pine hangs on to beat Ascension Catholic
Pine scored early runs and then hung on to top Ascension Christian, 5-4, in a road contest held Thursday.
The Raiders jumped out to a 5-0 lead after 4 1/2 innings.
Ascension Christian scored four unanswered to draw closer.
Ascension Christian tallied one in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth to make it a 5-4 contest.
Ascension Christian doubled with one out in the seventh, but Pine stranded the runner in scoring position to hang on for the victory.
Connor Holmes and Hunter Cooper posted two hits each.
Holmes had a double and an RBI, and he scored two runs. One of Cooper’s hits was a double.
Jordan Phelps, Connor Ard, Rion Terrell and Dillon Morris recorded a hit each.
Phelps’ hit was a double, and he finished with two RBIs and a run scored. Ard drove in a run.
Will Polk and Caleb Voth tallied a run each.
Winning pitcher Hunter Cooper went the distance, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. He posted seven struck out four, walked four and hit a batter.
Mt. Hermon loses both games of a doubleheader
Mt. Hermon was swept in a doubleheader by Northlake Christian School, 11-1 and 13-1, on the road last Thursday in District 8-2A competition.
Preston Knight recorded three hits, including a double, and a run batted in during the opener.
Devin Smith and Chandler Johnson had one hit each for the Yellow Jackets.
In the second game, Trey Roberts posted two hits.
Johnson and Jase Fortenberry posted a hit each.
Dylan Clark scored the run for Mt. Hermon.
Bogalusa falls to Albany
Bogalusa’s Lumberjacks were topped by Albany, 3-2, in a road game held last Tuesday at Albany.
Elijah Hatcher tallied two hits in three at bats for Bogalusa.
Caleb Greely posted a hit and two runs batted in.
Trevion Harris, Meechie Baham, Sheylyn Griffin, Jonathan Turner and Rodarrius Pittman finished with one hit each.
Harris was the losing pitcher despite a solid performance. He went the distance, allowing two earned runs on eight hits. He struck out four and walked two in the complete game.
Pine defeats Bogalusa
Pine’s Trey Cooper and Ethan Knight combined for three hits and five runs batted in as the Raiders were victorious over Bogalusa, 13-4, at home last Monday.
Cooper finished with one hit, a double, and three RBIs. Knight posted two hits, two runs batted in and a run scored.
Jordan Phelps went two for three, including a double and two runs scored.
Connor Holmes, Hunter Cooper and Connor Ard tallied one hit each.
Holmes scored twice while Ard had an RBI.
Rion Terrell and Dillon Morris crossed the plate twice each.
Will Polk, Seth Brown, Jonathan Lyons and Landon Fonda scored a run each for the Raiders.
Jamie Adcox finished with an RBI.
Winning pitcher Hunter Cooper threw six innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits. He had nine strikeouts and no walks.
Bogalusa’s Elijah Hatcher posted two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
Thomas Turner had one hit, a triple, with two runs batted in and a run scored.
Harlum McGee and Trevion Harris had one hit each.
Harris tallied a run.
Meechie Baham scored the other run for the Lumberjacks.
Hatcher was the losing pitcher.
Bogalusa led the game 1-0 after one inning, but Pine tallied the eight runs. The Raiders scored three in the third, one in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
Bogalusa trimmed the lead to 8-4 after 6 1/2, but Pine responded with five more in its half of the sixth for the 13-4 final.
Mt. Hermon loses to Northlake Christian
Mt. Hermon’s Yellow Jackets suffered a 14-1 loss to Northlake Christian last Tuesday at home.
Mt. Hermon had just three hits, one each by Davin Frazier, Devin Smith and Preston Knight.
Frazier scored a run and Knight finished with a run batted in.
