The excitement of the Franklinton vs. Cecilia high school state championship football game at Caesars Superdome was overshadowed by a shooting near Champions Square late Friday night.
New Orleans Police said a 30-year-old man was shot just after 11 p.m. as he and his family were leaving the game. The victim and the suspect, identified as Gavin Calais, 20, of Arnaudville, La., reportedly got into an argument for unspecified reasons before the shooting occurred.
Officers stationed in the area heard the gunshots, rendered aid to the victim, and quickly apprehended Calais. The victim was transported to a hospital by ambulance and is in stable condition.
Calais has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. His bond is set at $300,000.
