Dale “Ed” Branch was recently appointed as Louisiana State Fire Marshall by Governor Jeff Landry

Franklinton’s own Ed Branch was recently appointed as the new State Fire Marshal, following the appointment of Bryan Adams to become the new Commissioner of the Office of Motor Vehicles. Known for his expertise in fire safety and community engagement, Branch’s appointment marks a new chapter in the state fire prevention and safety efforts.

Ed Branch brings a wealth of experience to the role of State Fire Marshal. Branch served in the Fire Marshal’s office from 2005 to 2017. After leaving to take a position in private industry, as well as running the family insurance agency, Branch returned to the Fire Marshal’s Office last year, bringing with him a renewed focus on strengthening fire safety protocols.

A lifelong resident of Franklinton, Branch’s ties to his hometown run deep. In addition to his professional achievements, Branch is also involved in the community. He is an active member of the Franklinton Rotary Club and serves as co-chairman of the Midway Committee at the Washington Parish Free Fair.

Branch says that “to be appointed by Governor Landry is the honor of my working career.” His plans moving forward are to “continue to look for every efficiency in the operations of the State Fire Marshal’s Office.” He also hopes to continue to provide his employees with the best training to accomplish all of their life safety mandates in commercial buildings. Despite the Fire Marshal’s Office having no jurisdiction over residential structures, it is important to Branch to continue to stress the importance of smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in homes.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is tasked with many responsibilities, some of which include fire investigations, life safety inspections in commercial buildings, and healthcare life safety inspections for hospitals and nursing homes. The Fire Marshal’s Office also provides law enforcement for big events such as the recent Super Bowl and Mardi Gras.
