Tillman S. Stogner Jr.

February 23, 1947 – April 4, 2025

Tillman S. Stogner, Jr., a faithful servant of God and beloved husband, father, Poppy, brother, uncle and friend entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the age of 78 years.

Tillman is survived by his bride of 57 years, his heart, Jill Bougere Stogner of Bogalusa, LA; his sons Stephen (Sarah) Stogner of Bogalusa, LA, and Scott (Paula) Stogner of Braxton, MS; a brother Michael Stogner of Bogalusa, LA; beloved grandchildren Allyson Stogner (Michael) Berry, Andie Stogner, Miranda Megason, Mitchell (Abby) Megason, Anna Kathryn Stogner, Emily Stogner, Kayla Stogner.

Mr. Stogner was preceded in death by his parents, Tillman (Dutch) Stogner, Sr. and Carrie Ruiz Stogner; his birth mother, Mathilda Williams Stogner; a brother Stephen (3); twin sisters Jody and Judy (2 days); and sister Laura Stogner (11).

As co-owner of Double D Meat Company, Inc. with his brother Michael, they shared many accomplishments including The Lantern Award for economic development in the State of Louisiana and The Carney-Talbert Award for community leadership. Tillman also received The American Legion Citizen of the Year Award, served on the Board of the Directors for the Bogalusa Chamber of Commerce, served as President for multiple terms with Louisiana Meat Packers Association (LAMPA), and for the last 24 years has served on the Board of Directors for Citizens Savings Bank in Bogalusa, LA. Tillman received a proclamation from the City of New Orleans for his generous gifts to children and police officers, and served our country in the Army Reserves. He was ordained as Deacon in 1975, at Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bogalusa and later remained in the role of Deacon at First Baptist Church of Covington. Tillman had a God-given gift of loving others well. He never met a stranger and always made you feel like you were the most important person in the world when he talked and listened to you. Of all of his accomplishments, his greatest earthly treasure was his family, and he never missed an opportunity to tell them, and others, he loved them.

Visitation will begin Saturday, April 12, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Covington, LA in the Main Sanctuary, (1633 LA-1085, Covington, LA) from 8:00 AM until the service time of 11:00 AM. Dr. Waylon Bailey, Dr. Bill Boren, and Rev. Clif Smith will officiate, and interment will follow at Palestine Baptist Church Cemetery (59369 Palestine Church Rd, Bogalusa, LA). American Legion Graveside Rights will be performed by the American Legion Post #24.

Over the years, Tillman’s generosity was shown through the giving of pocketknives and flashlights to his friends, family and a lot of times to complete strangers. In more recent years, he took it a step further by distributing knives with his faith in Christ fully on display through Scripture verses, Statements of Faith, Discipleship, Psalms, and many more. If you were one of the many recipients of a knife and/or flashlight, we would request that you please bring those items with you to the service for a special moment of remembrance.
