Bogalusa City Schools (BCS) hosted a Summer Learning for Leaders Conference June 2nd-5th, setting the tone for the academic year with the announcement of the 2025-2026 districtwide theme: “Shifting Mindsets, Accelerating Excellence.” The theme embodies the district’s commitment to high expectations for all students, staff, and stakeholders as it continues its mission to transform education and unlock potential across every campus.

The four-day conference served as a launchpad for the year ahead, equipping educators with strategies to improve instruction, strengthen leadership, and raise academic performance. Superintendent Dr. Byron Hurst and district leaders emphasized the importance of aligning classroom policies and protocols with a shared vision of excellence.

The main objective of the conference was to provide teachers with the tools, support, and resources they need to manage their classrooms effectively and advance both student success and school-wide achievement. Educators collaborated on data-driven strategies, discussed behavior management approaches, and reflected on best practices. Ellen Taylor, a district leader, added that a key priority for the upcoming year is “focusing on increasing test scores” throughout all schools.

Each day of the conference explored a different aspect of leadership and learning. Day one centered on mindset shifts, encouraging participants to embrace innovation and equity in education. Day two provided practical strategies for classroom instruction, with breakout sessions on technology integration, differentiated learning, and support for diverse needs. The final day focused on sustainability and implementation, with teams developing school-specific action plans and building momentum for long-term progress.

As part of its 2025-2026 vision, Bogalusa City Schools is expanding career readiness opportunities to better prepare students for college, careers, and life beyond graduation. Students now have access to a diverse range of career pathways. These programs are designed to spark student interest, cultivate real-world skills, and ensure every graduate is equipped to thrive in a competitive, evolving workforce. Additionally, the district’s virtual school option continues to offer flexible, personalized learning for students who excel in non-traditional environments.

The Summer Learning for Leaders Conference and this year’s district theme reflect a broader commitment from the Bogalusa City School Board to invest in professional growth, academic achievement, and systemic improvement. Families, community members, and local partners are encouraged to get involved and support the district’s vision to raise the bar for every student.
