The Washington Parish Council convened Monday, June 9, 2025, for its regularly scheduled meeting to review fiscal matters, property transactions, and local board appointments.

The meeting began with presentations by Rusty Fornea, Executive Director of ADAPT and Dana Walker of Brilliant Mindz, Inc., both highlighting ongoing community initiatives. ADAPT continues its efforts in public health education, while Brilliant Mindz, Inc. focuses on youth development and mental wellness in the parish.

A proposed ordinance was introduced to amend the 2025 Annual Operating Budget. While specific reallocations were not detailed during the meeting, such amendments are typically brought forward to adjust for unanticipated expenses or shifts in funding priorities.

The council approved a resolution authorizing the parish to advertise for the sale of 28.15 acres of parish-owned land located in Section 32, Township 3 South, Range 12 East. The parcel, currently unused, was described as surplus property. Proceeds from the sale are expected to support general parish operations or future capital improvements.

By unanimous vote, the council approved a resolution waiving repayment of a USDA-funded Revolving Loan previously granted to a parish business through a Rural Business Enterprise Grant program. Council members cited economic development and small business support as justification for the decision, emphasizing the importance of flexibility in helping rural entrepreneurs thrive.

The council appointed three new members to the Board of Directors for Fire Protection District No. 7. The appointees will help oversee operations, budgets, and emergency response coordination for the district.

The council’s next meeting is scheduled for later this month, where members are expected to review additional ordinances and hear updates from department heads.
