SPECIAL TO THE DAILY NEWS
Four Bowling Green School students—Kate Schilling, Mady Ross, Ella Dorsett, and Shelbylee Carney—had the incredible opportunity to attend Louisiana Girls State last week, where they joined high school juniors from across the state for a week of leadership, learning, and civic engagement.
Louisiana Girls State is a prestigious program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, designed to empower young women by immersing them in the democratic process. Delegates form a mock government, run for office, draft legislation, and experience first-hand how state and local government works. The program builds confidence, leadership skills, and a deeper appreciation for civic responsibility.
Also representing Bowling Green in a special way was 2025 graduate Kara Courtney, who served as a Girls State counselor. Kara was selected through a highly competitive process and played a key role in ensuring the week’s success.
Bowling Green spokesperson said, “We are proud of these young women for taking the initiative to grow as leaders and make a positive impact in their communities.
