SPECIAL TO THE DAILY NEWS
The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office (WPSO) is calling on the public for continued support in donating dog and cat food to help feed the growing number of stray animals in the parish. Thanks to an outpouring of generosity, hundreds of pounds of food have already been collected—but the need remains great.
Stray dogs and cats continue to overwhelm limited shelter space and resources throughout the area. Sheriff’s deputies and animal control officers regularly respond to calls from residents reporting lost or abandoned animals, many of whom arrive in poor health and desperately in need of nourishment.

“These animals often come to us hungry and underweight,” said a WPSO representative. “A good meal is the first step in their recovery and journey to adoption. That’s why your donations matter.”
The Sheriff’s Office is accepting all types of pet food, including: dry or wet food, canned or bagged, and unopened recently expired items.
Donations can be dropped off at either WPSO location:
Bogalusa Office: 302 Mississippi Ave., Bogalusa, LA
Franklinton Office: 1002 Main St., Franklinton, LA
“All donations are welcome—our animals aren’t picky,” the office said in a statement. “We’re grateful for the community’s support in helping care for these dogs and cats until they find loving homes.”
