The Washington Parish Council on Aging is working to ensure that local seniors and caregivers have access to the resources they need to live safely, healthily, and independently.
Through a wide range of services, the Council supports residents aged 60 and older, family caregivers, and individuals in need of transportation or nutrition assistance. Programs include everything from public transit and meal delivery to caregiver support and emergency alert systems.

One of the most utilized services is public transportation, offered through Louisiana Transit. Seniors can schedule rides for medical appointments, grocery shopping, bank visits, work, hair appointments, and other essential errands. Transportation is available by calling 985-732-6868, 985-732-6869, or 985-289-6014.
For those who are homebound, the Home Delivered Meals program provides nutritious meals delivered directly to seniors’ doors. For individuals who prefer a group setting, Congregate Nutrition Services offer hot meals served in a welcoming environment that also encourages social connection.
The Council also supports caregivers by offering access to resources, guidance, and relief services. Caregiver Support programs help ease the emotional and physical burden of providing full-time care to loved ones.
Health and wellness are at the center of the Council’s mission. Through Nutrition Education workshops and wellness-focused resources, seniors are encouraged to make informed decisions about their diets and lifestyle habits.
In addition to physical well-being, the Council emphasizes the importance of community and connection. Recreation programs and social events give seniors the opportunity to stay active and engaged, while Medical Alerts offer added safety and peace of mind for those living alone.
The Council’s office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. More information is available by calling the numbers listed above or visiting the Council’s website at www.wpcoa.com.
