One of the nation’s most revered military honors, the Purple Heart, will soon be permanently recognized in Washington Parish. On Monday, July 28 at 4:30 p.m., Senator Beth Mizell, Washington Parish President Ryan Seal, and the Washington Parish Council will host a special ceremony at the Washington Parish Courthouse to officially declare Washington Parish a Purple Heart Parish.
This designation honors the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who have been wounded or killed in action. By becoming a Purple Heart Parish, Washington Parish publicly affirms its deep appreciation and lasting gratitude for the sacrifices made by its military heroes.
“This is an opportunity for our community to come together and acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of our service members,” said Senator Mizell. “We want every Purple Heart recipient with ties to Washington Parish—both living and deceased—to be recognized and honored during this special event.”
Organizers are calling on the public to help identify all Purple Heart recipients from the area. If you or someone you know has received the Purple Heart, please reach out to the Parish so that each name can be honored appropriately during the ceremony.
