The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a new road construction project that will impact traffic along LA 21 in Washington Parish. As part of Project H.014852, crews will begin work on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 7:00 AM. The project is expected to conclude by October 31, 2025.
The construction zone covers a 6.65-mile stretch of LA 21, extending from LA 1075 to South Columbia Street near the Bogalusa city limits (mile post 0.413 to mile post 7.063). During this time, both northbound and southbound lanes will undergo intermittent and alternating lane closures. While these closures will affect both the left and right lanes, one lane in each direction will remain open at all times to maintain traffic flow.
The comprehensive scope of work includes:
• Removal and replacement of existing asphalt pavement
• Installation of temporary and permanent roadway striping
• Installation of guard rails and rumble strips
• Additional necessary roadway improvements
Some key details to note are:
• Work Hours: There are no time restrictions for this project; contractors may operate 24 hours a day, especially during milling operations.
• Emergency Access: Emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass through the construction zone without restriction.
• Oversized Load Restrictions: Oversized vehicles are limited to a maximum width of 12 feet during construction.
• Detour Options: Drivers wishing to avoid delays are encouraged to use alternate routes throughout the project duration.
DOTD strongly urges motorists to drive with caution through the construction area. Please pay attention to posted signage, watch for construction personnel and equipment, and reduce speed as needed. Your patience and cooperation are crucial to ensuring a safe work environment and the successful completion of the project.
