Louisiana residents interested in hunting can now complete their hunter education certification entirely online, and at no cost, thanks to a new partnership between the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and the National Rifle Association of America (NRA).

This free online course, provided by the NRA, is the latest effort to promote safe, ethical hunting practices across the state. Built by the organization that launched the first-ever hunter education program in the U.S. in 1949, the course features 15 interactive chapters filled with engaging videos, dynamic graphics, and real-life visuals.

Participants can complete the training anytime, anywhere, making it easier than ever to get certified before heading into the woods.

LDWF Secretary Tyler Bosworth stated, โ€œPromoting safe and ethical hunting is our priority. Thatโ€™s why LDWF is proud to partner with the NRA to offer the public a free online option for hunter education certification. This partnership expands access to this required course, giving more people the opportunity to get certified conveniently and at no cost.โ€

Whether youโ€™re a seasoned hunter needing certification or a newcomer preparing for your first season, this accessible online course removes barriers and ensures all Louisianans have the resources they need to hunt responsibly.
