On Saturday, Oct. 25, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., local businesses and community supporters will host a citywide Fall Festival block party at Cassidy Park.

“This event was created for the purpose of offering a safe and drug-free environment filled with fun jumpers, tons of candy and more for underprivileged children. At this event, there will be a drive for canned foods for our local food banks, as well as a coat drive for families in need,” Business on the Block Committee member Kallie Boleware Breland said. “This event will be held at no cost to the participating businesses and attendees.”

There will be no charge for any activities.

“We only ask to set up a table to give away candy or other prizes for the children,” Breland said. “The hope for the fall festival block party is to give back to the community and its families. While having a fun, positive atmosphere, a family can come share precious time together creating lasting memories and giving each child something positive, as well as contributing to worthy causes with coats and canned foods. We want to invest in our families.”

Breland said all businesses involved in the block party to assist the less fortunate children will be recognized.

“This is a wonderful way to earn free advertisement and build a better connection with potential customers at no cost to anyone involved.” Breland said. “Each business supporting this block party has a common goal of to build a better Bogalusa working hand in hand with the community.”

Activities include an obstacle course, a car show, DJs, entertainment and games, giveaways, face painting, costume contest, a candy rain from fire trucks and trick or treating. Anna and Elsa, characters from Disney’s ���Frozen” movie, are scheduled to hosts a live sing-along at 6:30 p.m. All activities are free.

Opening ceremonies are schedule for 5 p.m. Bogalusa High School cheerleaders, choir, JROTC and clubs will provide entertainment, presentation of colors, music and dancing.

Car show winners will be announced at 6 p.m. Bogalusa Mayor Charles Mizell is scheduled to speak at 6:10 p.m. The costume contest is slated for 7 p.m. at the stage for children 12 and under. The candy rain from Bogalusa Fire Department trucks is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
