Sherry Fortenberry announced her candidacy for Bogalusa City Council, District E, in the Nov. 4 election.

“Running for this position has been something I have wanted to do for years,” Fortenberry said. “I care about our district, and I am focused on our future. I would like to see District E become a lively and safe environment for our kids to go out and play again. I want us to live in a clean district, not only for us but for those surrounding us. General improvement of our neighborhood is my main goal. I want others to be as proud of District E as I am.

“I have been married to John Fortenberry for 50 years, and we have eight children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandkids. I am a family oriented person and a Christian that tries to instill Christian values in our family. I attend and am an active member of Monroe Street Baptist Church, where I serve as Sunday School superintendent. I have lived in District E all my married life with the exception of 1969-1970, during which time my husband, John, worked for General Motors in Flint, Mich.

“I’m a retired nurse, having worked at Riverside Medical Center and Bogalusa Community Medical Center. I have also been an active foster and adoptive parent for the last 25 years.

“I am focused on our future. You can reach me at http://fortenberry2015.webs.com. I am looking forward to meeting every resident of District E.”
