GERALD
Burdell Gerald, 72, a resident of Thomas, born Dec. 25, 1941, died at 11:07 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of Crain’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church and the former owner of the Tenneco Service Station in Amite for many years. He later became a dairyman and operated his dairy for over 35 years. Recently he, alongside his family, was the operator of the Pine Malt Stand for 14 years. Burdell loved caring for his many horses and watching them run through the pasture, but most important to him was the time spent with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ione Barber Gerald of Thomas; two sons and a Daughter in law: Randy Gerald, Tim and Rachel Gerald all of Thomas; daughter, Sandy Gerald of Thomas; five grandchildren and a spouse, Nicole and Nathanial Sumrall, Wade Gerald, Alexis Gerald, Alissa Gerald and Austin Gerald; two great-grandsons, Joseph Sumrall and Colton Sumrall; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald Wayne Gerald and Joann Gerald of Thomas; two sisters-in-law, Earnestine Gerald and Margaret Gerald, both of Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Gerald and Hazel Seals Gerald; a grandson, Jason Crain; and brothers, Shelton Gerald and Floyd Dale Gerald.
Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home Thursday, May 22 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will continue after 9 a.m. on Friday. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Elder Willie J. Passman officiating. Burial will follow in the Gerald Cemetery.
