Terry “Foots” Quinn has released a new collection of folk music.

The collection is titled “Abe, Annie and the Streamline Rebel,” and the songs are mostly covers of train songs. The collection features Quinn and his friends on the instruments and the album features songs including “Midnight Special,” “City of New Orleans” and “Hear that Lonesome Whistle Blow.”

In addition to being a musician, Quinn is a train enthusiast and he said he produced the collection specifically for a recent GM&O convention in Jackson, Tenn.

“At those meetings you rent tables and sell stuff for fun,” he said.

For the most part, Quinn said he’s released the tracks on earlier albums (this is his fifth) though he said he’s got a couple of unreleased tracks on the collection. The new ones include a Quinn original, “Streetcar Girl,” and “Olde Friend,” which is about the former Rebel line that ran through Bogalusa.

Quinn said he is not planning a release party for the album, though he is selling them for $10 each to anyone who’d like one. Quinn said he’s already discovered one fan as he was walking through Cassidy Park last week.

“I was walking the dog in the park and I heard one of the workers blasting the music from his car,” Quinn said. He said he was happy to realize someone was listening to his album.

“It costs me more money to do my music than I get from the music, so it thrills me to hear someone playing it,” he said.

In addition, Quinn wanted to invite the community to a railroad festival in Meridian, Miss., on Saturday. Quinn said anyone who wants to go can catch the Amtrak train in Picayune at 8:22 a.m. Saturday.

“Once you get to Meridian, it’s a big station and the festival will be all around it,” Quinn said. “They’ll have steam whistles and a steam factory. They have 30 or 40 machines that still run on steam and they only operate them during the festival.”
