On Wednesday, two Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC) students were beaming, after they learned they were recipients of scholarships through the Sullivan Vocational Foundation, according to an NTCC press release.
Carey Victor and Misty Hellmers each received a scholarship.
The Sullivan Vocational Foundation, Inc. was founded in 1999 as a result of a donation from the estate of Mrs. Lucy Lee Robbins of Bogalusa. It was “Mrs. Lucy’s” desire that these funds be available for scholarships and educational needs of students at NTCC. A board of trustees was later established to include community volunteers who oversee funds and ensure that all funds are used for the original intent of this donation.
Victor, who has already earned her certification in Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy, is continuing to pursue her passion by earning her degree in nursing.
Hellmers is a welding student who loves the craft and is looking forward to working in industry upon graduation.
The scholarships awarded were sponsored by Dr. Rodney Kalil. Kalil is a retired ophthalmologist who harbors a passion for inspiring students to pursue their dreams. His love of learning, instilled in him by his parents, powers his passion to advocate for students and provide resources that facilitate their success.
He is a long-time benefactor of scholarship support and his generosity is beyond measure.
The award recipients are appreciative of this opportunity and the support they are receiving as they continue to build promising futures.
