Mt. Hermon’s Hughes qualifies for three regional competitions

Mt. Hermon’s Kalei Hughes qualified for regionals in three events at the District 8-B meet that was Thursday at Hoss Memtsas Stadium.
Hughes was second in the javelin, third in the shot put and fourth in the discus.
Hughes threw the javelin 102 feet, 3 inches. Holden’s Kylee Hughes won the event at 111-4.25.
Mt. Hermon’s Hughes had a shot put distance of 28-9.5. Holden’s Amanda Fekete, who won the field MVP, took first in the shot put at 30-0. Hughes threw the discus 67-4.5. Patrick Taylor Science and Technology’s Janee Kovacs won at 95-1.5.
Thursday’s meet was a qualifying meet. The top four finishers from each event advance to the Region 3-B meet, which takes place Tuesday at Jennings High School.
Amuriel Williams is going to regionals in two events. She was second in the 100 meters at 13.63 seconds and third in the 200 with a time of 28.86. Patrick Taylor’s Davion Lemon won the 100 in 13.54 and M.L. King Charter’s Pierre topped the 200 in 26.51.
Sikoya Jackson finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 13-3. Holden’s Hughes won at 14-8.
Madison Montecino was third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 22.54. Holden’s Victoria Richardson won in 19.15.
Baileigh Crain was fourth in the 800, running a time of 3 minutes, 32 seconds. Holden’s Asia Sierra, who won the track MVP, was the winner in 2:49.
Mt. Hermon’s 4×200 relay team was third in 2:06. M.L. King Charter won in 1:47.
Crain was sixth in the 1,600 in 7:53. Holden’s Madison Knight won in 6:11.
The team featured Tiffany Blades, Montecino, Jackson and Williams.
Montecino was sixth in the 300-hurdles at 1:05. Richardson was the winner in 54.87.
The overall MVP was Holden’s Jessica Litolff.
Patrick Taylor won the team competition with 181 points, as five teams tallied at least one point.
Holden was second at 168, followed by Mt. Hermon’s 58, Slaughter’s 40 and M.L. King Charter’s 35.
