BHS’s Turner, Chatman picked for District 7-3A’s 1st team

Two Bogalusa softball players were selected first-team all-district players in the 7-3A league.
Utility Shaunté Chatman and outfielder Tiara Turner were named to the top team for the Lady Jacks.
Two others were selected for the second team including, pitcher Miyana Roberts and infielder Tegean Odom.
Bogalusa’s honorable mention all-district player is Natavia Hall.
Albany’s Brittany Turner is the league’s Most Valuable and her coach John Legoria is the Coach of the Year.
Besides Turner the other first-team pitcher is Jewel Sumner’s Emma Fowler.
The catchers include, Albany’s Rayann Ridgel and Jewel Sumner’s Taryn McNabb.
The infielders feature Albany teammates Kaci Payne, Anna Lee Giamova, Shelby Cannon and Savanna Bourgeois along with Jewel Sumner teammates Chloe Stokes, Kelsey Saldana, Lana Fairburn and Abby Smith.
The rest of the outfield is Albany’s Heather Degenhardt and Abby Spring, Sumner teammates Cassye Jo Norris and Destinee Gray and Independence’s Diamond Manuel.
The designated hitter is Stacy Godinez.
This season, Jewel Sumner reached the regional round of the state playoffs before coming up short to state semifinalist Jena, 2-1.
Albany also made the regionals, but suffered a 6-0 loss to quarterfinalist Lutcher, 6-0.
Switching to the second-team, the catcher is Independence’s Ialiyah Preston.
The rest of the infield has Albany teammates Camryn Woods and Madeline Oubre, Independence’s Karanesha Milton and Jewel Sumner’s Katelyn Maggio and Zoe Reames.
The outfield has Albany’s Meredith Cleveland along with Jewel Sumner’s Madelyn Williams and Leah Warner.
