State Rep. Malinda B. White wants her constituents to know that while records show her District 75 had 1,163 households with a FEMA-verified loss resulting from the 2016 floods, only 85 had completed the Restore Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Program survey, as of June 5.

That means 93 percent of the local flood victims have yet to take the first step to receive the federal assistance.

The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and taking a quick survey is the first step flood-impacted homeowners must take in order to participate in the program.

The Restore Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Program is dedicated to helping homeowners affected by the March and/or August 2016 floods to repair and restore their damaged homes, or to get reimbursed for work already completed. Those affected can take the survey online at restore.la.gov or by phone at 1-866-735-2001 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

White encourages all flood-impacted homeowners to complete the survey, even if they don’t think they will qualify now, as they may qualify as more funding becomes available.
