The Bogalusa City School Board’s August meeting on Thursday started with a special presentation to Superintendent Lisa Tanner.

Lisa Hyde Murray, a nurse in the school system, said she found a picture of the 1917 Lumberjacks football team among belongings owned by her grandmother, Hebe Richardson Yarborough. Murray said she wanted to give it to Tanner, on behalf of her family.

“We’re starting a new era here in this school system, and since the picture was taken 100 years ago, I felt I wanted to do something,” Murray said. “I want to give it to Miss Tanner to keep in her office.”

The picture includes Yarborough’s brother, Lacy, as well as the great-grandfather of Carla McGehee, the system’s Director of Human Resources.

When they got down to business, the board revised the budget for the current school year, and unanimously approved the budget for 2017-2018, thus getting the job done before the Sept. 15 state deadline.

The board, with only Eleanor Duke absent, also unanimously agreed to discard fixed assets, to an employee dress code, and to releasing the Committed Fund Balance of $1,197,705.67 to the Unassigned Fund Balance as of June 30.

Tanner announced that the system was awarded a School Redesign Grant, which is designed for struggling school districts. She said the system had already received a $25,000 planning grant for an ANET needs assessment.
