More than 100 volunteers gave up their time Saturday morning to help clean up the Pearl River, as a part of the two-state “Pearl River Clean Sweep” effort.
During Saturday’s event, volunteers in two parishes in Louisiana and 15 counties in Mississippi worked diligently to remove trash and other debris out of the nearly 500 miles that the Pearl River flows.
The group from Washington Parish had the most trash removed by any volunteer group, as they collected 7,446 pounds of trash — or just short of four tons.
State Rep. Malinda White was the site leader, and Gary Parker was the assistant site leader.
