Washington Parish’s first baby of the new year was born Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital.

Wyatt Lane Merritt burst into the world at 9:15 a.m., weighing in at eight pounds and 11 ounces, and measuring 20 inches long.

Parents David and Brandy Merritt were excited to learn that Wyatt was Washington Parish’s “New Year Baby.”

“The entire staff was wonderful, especially our nurse, Rosalind Pittman, RN. They all made sure we had another great experience,” Brandy Merritt said.

Dr. Whit Gallaspy, Our Lady of the Angels Obstetrics and Gynecology, delivered Wyatt, with the help of LSU Rural Family Medicine Residents, Dr. Chantel Taylor and Dr. Zack Bryant.

“We chose to deliver Wyatt at Our Lady of the Angels because we had a great experience delivering our first baby, Katherine, here four years ago,” Merritt said. “And I love Dr. Gallaspy. He’s a great doctor.”

Our Lady of the Angels Hospital presented the Merritt family with a New Year baby gift basket full of baby goodies.
