A Bogalusa man was arrested Thursday for several drug-related crimes, after leading officers on a foot chase following a traffic stop, according to Maj. Percy Knight of the Bogalusa Police Department.

Knight, the public information officer for the BPD, said that an officer observed a vehicle travelling west on Carolina Avenue “at a high rate of speed” at 6:16 p.m. Thursday.

“As the vehicle approached the intersection of Carolina Avenue and Louisiana Avenue, the driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic, almost causing a traffic accident,” Knight said.

Knight said that the BPD officer initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle pulled over on

Carolina Ave near Memphis Street. The driver, identified as William B. McCrory, 38, of Bogalusa, then got out the vehicle in an aggressive manner.

For the officers’ safety, BPD officers were about to place handcuffs on McCrory when he fled on foot, Knight said. As the officer was chasing McCrory, he reportedly started emptying items out of his pockets while he was fleeing.

Knight said that McCrory was later apprehended after a foot chase. McCrory resisted arrest and wouldn’t place his hands behind his back to be handcuffed, Knight said, adding that the officer was able to gain control of McCrory and place him in the handcuffs.

Knight said that officers searched McCrory’s vehicle and located on the driver’s side floorboard, a bag containing numerous syringes, as well as a white rock substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. Also in the bag was one syringe loaded with suspected meth, one unopened package of Suboxine, a digital scale, two packs of rolling papers, two small clear plastic bags that contained suspected marijuana and several bags containing numerous meth pills, Knight said.

Knight said that officers then proceed to the area where McCrory emptied his pockets and located $334 in cash and a container that contained one suspected meth pill.

McCrory was arrested on booked on the charges of driver’s license must be on person, careless operation, second offense possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule II narcotics and resisting an officer.
