Pine suffered a 36-14 District 9-2A loss to St. Helena College and Career Academy in the league opener that took place on the road Friday.
The game was tied at 14-14 through three quarters, but St. Helena scored 22-unanswered points in the fourth quarter in the 36-14 final.
Pine took an 8-0 lead, but St. Helena scored 14 straight. Pine tied the game at 14-14 by halftime and it stayed that way until the fourth quarter.
“I felt the game should’ve been 14-0 in our favor at halftime. We dropped a pick. They also scored a TD when one of our guys slipped,” Pine coach Bradley Seal said.
The Raiders also had the ball inside the 5 with a chance to take the lead in the third, but a loss of yards, a penalty and a pick ended the drive.
“We just had our opportunities to win the game and just didn’t do it. Late in the game, their offensive line wore us down,” Seal said. “We’ve got to put that one behind us.”
Logan Temples threw for 198 yards and a touchdown. He also scored a touchdown on a quarterback sneak.
Jordan Anderson caught 14 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown.
The Raiders are 2-2 this season while St. Helena is 3-1.
Pine’s season continues on Friday when the Raiders face Springfield for Homecoming night. Springfield is 2-2.
