Bowling Green School got off to a tough start in a 60-25 loss to Adams County Christian Academy at home Friday night on homecoming.

“I could tell on the guys’ faces in pregame that we were a little intimidated and I kind of warned them before the game that that’s what we looked like and we kind of didn’t answer that. We just kind of stayed and played intimated,” Bowling Green coach Boomer Nunez said. “I don’t know what it was. We had a good week of preparation, but I don’t want to take anything away from ACCS, they played well, but I mean, our guys just didn’t execute the game plan.”

ACCS scored the game’s first 27 points.

Adams took the opening drive 75 yards and scored when Sterling Yarbrough found Paul Cupstid on a 17-yard scoring pass to make it 7-0 after Yohan Thompson’s extra point with 9:33 left in the first quarter.

Adams County’s Kemari Clark intercepted a pass on the Buccaneers’ possession and the Rebels scored when Yarbrough found D.J. Stampley for a 50-yard touchdown. The snap was past the holder on the extra point, keeping it 13-0.

After the Bucs turned the ball over on downs at their own 29, Adams County’s Tripp Cotton ran the 29 yards for 21-0 lead after Jakarius Caston ran in for two points with 4:26 to go in the first.

The final six points of the first came on Rhett McDonald’s 1-yard run. The extra point was no good and it was 27-0 after one quarter. It remained that score until Bowling Green tallied on a Larry Dillon 36-yard run. Gage Winget hit the extra point to make it 27-7 at the 6:15 mark of the second quarter. Dillon was a bright spot for the Bucs, running for 229 yards and three touchdowns.

Adams County added another on a 36-yard run by Caston with 5:56 to go in the first half. The extra point was no good and it was 33-7 at the break.

Bowling Green punted to start the second half and Adams County tallied on its second play with Caston running 79 yards to pay dirt. Thompson added the extra point and it was 40-7 with 9:46 on the clock.

Bowling Green made it 40-13 on Johntae McDowell’s run from the 1. The two-point conversion was no good.

The Bucs got closer when Dillon broke free on a 79-yard touchdown run up the right sideline. The two-point attempt was no good and Bowling Green was within 21 at 40-19 with 6:49 left.

But Adams County scored again when Dawson Parker tallied on a four-yard run. Thompson hit the extra point for a 47-19 game with 5:24 left in the third.

Dillon was back in the end zone on the next possession with another long run, this time for 69 yards. The two-point conversion was no good, keeping it 47-25 with 4:16 left in the third.

ACCS tallied once more in the third quarter on Cupstid’s 6-yard run. Thompson’s extra point was good for a 54-25 lead.

The final score came with 10:15 left in the fourth quarter on a 6-yard run by Stampley. Adams knelt on the conversion for the 60-25 final.

Bowling Green is 6-2 this season and the Bucs will be back in action Friday, hosting Simpson Academy. Adams County improved to 7-0.
