Jennifer Abelseth, who has been sought by the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office in connection with a kidnapping incident, was captured on Thursday in Tangipahoa Parish, according to WPSO Chief Deputy Mike Haley.
Acting on information received, WPSO investigator Kody Glenn contacted the Sheriff’s Office in Tangipahoa Parish, who went to a location in the Natalbany area and arrested Abelseth, Haley said.
Abelseth faces additional charges in Tangipahoa Parish and remained in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on Thursday morning, awaiting transfer to Washington Parish where she faces four counts of simple kidnapping. Her husband, Joshua Michael Abelseth, was captured several days ago and remains in the Washington Parish Jail.
Reportedly, the Abelseths are the non-custodial parents of four children, and they kidnapped the children from the parish late last week. The children were located and returned to the custody of their grandparents, and it appears the children suffered no harm during the kidnapping.
“Thanks to the hard work and diligence of our investigators, this case was resolved in just a few days,” Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal said. “The children are safe at home with their custodial grandparents and the kidnappers are in jail. That is a good outcome.
“I am grateful not only to our investigators but also to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, other law enforcement agencies and the media outlets who were quick to disseminate all information about this unfortunate event.”
