Mt. Hermon’s Daeshaun captures shot put in district meet

Mt. Hermon School’s James Daeshaun won the shot put in the District 8-B Meet that took place on April 20 at Christ Episcopal School.
Daeshaun’s shot put distance was 31 feet, 7 inches. Maurepas’ Thomas Bovia was second at 26-11.
The meet was a qualifier. The top four from each event are headed to regionals that will be held today at Midland.
Mt. Hermon School is the only team from Washington Parish in District 8-B.
Brandon Tate qualified in the 200 meters and the 400. He came in third place in the 200 at 28.16 seconds and fourth in the 400 in 1 minute, 2 seconds. Christ Episcopal teammates Callum Newberry and Marcus Moses won the 200 and 400 with times of 26.02 and 56.75 respectively.
Daeshaun was fourth in the discus with a throw of 66-0. Holden’s Jayden Bonds won with a distance of 78-2.
Also for Mt. Hermon, Tate was fifth in the long jump at 15-10.5. Maurepas’ Colby Penalber won at 17-2.
Maurepas won the team competition with 94.5 points, as four schools posted points.
Holden was second with 81.5, followed by Christ Episcopal’s 63 and Mt. Hermon School’s 15.
