MCCA parade returning in 2022

- Parade visitors enjoy the festivities at the most recent MCCA parade, held in February of 2020 just prior to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The parade was not held in 2021, but will return in 2022.

Don Spiers, captain of the Krewe of the Magic City Carnival Association (MCCA), told The Daily News on Wednesday that the traditional Mardi Gras parade will return next year.
The MCCA XLI parade is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022.
“We are happy to report that MCCA is back,” Spiers said. “Our traditional date of June 1 will begin the period for membership renewals, and for our dens to recruit membership to fill any vacancy. Several Krewe dens and ladies’ float groups have already arranged venues and dates for the season’s many gatherings.”
The MCCA season was cancelled completely in 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The year of the coronavirus plague was an unforgettable tragedy,” Spiers said. “The Magic City Carnival Krewe is set to now put that far behind us. Washington Parish is a place where ‘Magic’ happens. Surely it is magic that we have — for more than 40 years — been the biggest Mardi Gras Carnival show in the state of Louisiana outside New Orleans, and the biggest anywhere on earth in any place of our comparable size.”
Spiers said that the revealing of the King and Queen and the Royal Court Announcements event would be presented on the evening of New Year’s Eve, at the end of 2021.
The coronation ball will be held on the evening of Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022.
The parade will be the 41st in MCCA’s history, and 37 floats are expected to participate, Spiers said.
