The Washington Parish Fair Committee Chairmen and Executive Board held their regularly scheduled September meeting on Monday. Foremost on the minds of those who were in attendance was whether or not to continue with plans to host the 2021 edition of the fair.
The lieutenant governor’s office informed the executive board that there are no restrictions in place to prevent the fair, except wearing a mask indoors. It was also reported that Tangipahoa Parish will host its fair and the State Fair of Louisiana held in Shreveport will also be open. Statistics on the vaccination rate in the region were reported, as well as other information from Homeland Security.
Following a time of discussion where each member present had the opportunity to voice concerns and ask questions, a vote was held.
The 2021 edition of the Washington Parish Free Fair will run as scheduled from Oct. 20-24. The fair will open with the traditional Wednesday morning parade and close on Sunday evening.
This year’s main stage entertainment will feature headliners: The Canton Spirituals and the Fair Queen Pageant on Wednesday night, Coffey Anderson on Thursday night, Frank Foster on Friday night, and Soul Revival and Category 6 on Saturday night. The stage committee will begin releasing the names of the opening acts and Down by the Branch will also make public scheduled entertainment in the next week.
Meanwhile, the committee chairs and executive board hope that everyone has an opportunity to enjoy some aspect of the fair.
