Louisiana’s U.S. senators announced earlier this week that Washington Parish would receive some federal money to assist with Hurricane Ida relief efforts.

U.S. Sen. Dr. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and U.S. Sen. John N. Kennedy (R-La.) stated Monday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will grant Louisiana a total of $26,512,481.29 in relief for Hurricane Laura, Hurricane Ida, and the 2016 floods.

Of those funds, $6,233,201.70 will go to Washington Parish, as a grant to provide federal funding for the removal of debris as a result of Hurricane Ida.

In addition to Washington Parish, the Baker School System, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, the City of Gonzales, the Louisiana Office of Emergency Preparedness and Jefferson Parish also benefited from the relief.

“Louisiana has been battered by storm after storm,” Cassidy said. “Funding needs to be delivered quicker, but this $26.5 million is welcome as we work to get our communities fully back on their feet.”

“Major floods and storms have taken a toll on our state, and Louisiana families are still recovering,” Kennedy said. “This $26.5 million will provide help in Louisiana’s struggle to rebuild.”
