Franklinton’s Smith, Mt. Hermon’s Williams win event in meet

Franklinton’s Carli Smith and Mt. Hermon School’s Shunna Williams both won an event in the Cowgirl Relays that were held at Jewel Sumner on March 10.
Smith captured the long jump with a distance of 12 feet, 2.5 inches.
Williams won the 400 meters with a time of 1 minute, 9 seconds.
Teammate Amuriel Williams, Franklinton’s Ka’Niyha Dillon, Varnado’s Gabrielle Wiggins and Franklinton’s Kandence Smith were second through fifth with times of 1:13, 1:23, 1:24 and 1:34.
Besides Williams, Franklinton’s Keteylar Hodges, Jennifer Dong and Franklinton’s 4×100 relay team.
Hodges was second in the shot put at 22-10.
Teammate Jakyla McClane was fifth at 19-8. Loranger’s Tayler Hills won at 26-11.
Dong was second in the discus with a throw of 67-10.
Teammate Isabella Lambert was sixth at 44-8. Loranger’s Lorielei Gautreau topped the event with a 73-4.
Franklinton’s 4×100 team ran a 1:02. The team had Morgan Gilbert, Ava Lavigne, Smith and Mercedez Lopez. Jewel Sumner won in 52.33 seconds.
Besides the ones noted, three locals came in third that included Franklinton’s Ava Lavigne, Varnado’s Wiggins, Mt. Hermon’s Shunna Williams and Mt. Hermon’s 4×200 relay team.
Lavigne was third in the 300 hurdles after running a 1:01. Loranger’s Madison Ackerman won in 51.56.
Wiggins came in third for the 100 hurdles in a time of 22.21.
Franklinton’s Aleigha Dalton was fourth at 30.34. Ackerman won in 19.68.
Shunna Williams came in third for the 800 with a time of 3:33.
Teammate Shalee McAlister was fourth in 3:56. Loranger’s Skylar Ford won in 2:50.
Mt. Hermon’s 4×200 team ran in 2:09. The group included Jaslyn Miller, Jumyrie Williams, McAlister and Shunna Williams.
Lambert came in fourth in the javelin with a throw of 47-3.
Mt. Hermon’s Alexis Trahan and Franklinton’s Arielle Magee came in fifth and sixth with distances of 40-9 and 37-3. Loranger’s Andi Lopinto won at 75-3.
Amuriel Williams, Lopez, Franklinton’s Amiryan Dyson and Mt. Hermon’s Charis Bunch were fifth and seventh through ninth in the 200 with times of 29.53, 34.01, 34.54 and 34.83. Loranger’s Tori Burton won at 27.40.
Mt. Hermon’s Camdyn Quin was fifth for the 1,600 with a time of 7:42. Ford won in 6:05.
Amuriel Williams and Miller tan eighth and ninth in the 100 with times of 16.68 and 16.91. Jewel Sumner’s Joneé Sims won in 13.05
Loranger won the team competition with 196 points with six teams putting up points.
Jewel Sumner was second with an 80, followed by Franklinton’s 67, Mt. Hermon School’s 42, Independence’s 16 and Varnado’s 10.
Varnado will compete again on March 29 at Tylertown in Mississippi. Franklinton’s next meet will be on April 1 at Jewel Sumner. Mt. Hermon will be back in action on April 14 at Christ Episcopal School for their district meet.
