Eight local powerlifters are headed to the state meet.
Franklinton has four top 3 seeds in Evelyn Argualles, Angel Dufrene, Marleigh Schilling and Arielle Magee.
Argualles, who is in the SHW weight class, is a No. 2 seed in DIvision II. She lifted an 875 total at regionals between bench press, squat and deadlift. Argualles benched 345, squatted 170 and deadlifted 360.
Dufrene, who is in the 97s, lifted 425 at regionals. Dufrene posted a 150 bench, 95 squat and 180 deadlift.
Schilling is in the 132s and posted 725 total. She benched 315, squatted 140 and deadlifted 270.
Magee tallied a 715 total in the 220s with a 245 bench, 170 squat and 300 deadlift.
To reach state, the lifter had to either win their weight class at the regional meet or come in the top 10 of their division, but when somebody won their regional, that counted as a spot toward state, so if somebody from a Division I school won at regionals, there were nine spots left for state. There were six regions.
The state meet is March 22-25 at the Cajundome in Lafayette.
Four more locals made it to state in Franklinton teammates Bella Duplantis, Emma Cooke and Tayte Landry Pine’s Kathleen Thomas.
Landry is the No. 4 seed in the 181-pound weight class. She posted a 665 total with a 290 bench, 125 squat and 250 deadlift.
Duplantis is in the 114s and she benched 195, squatted 100 and deadlifted 240 for 535 total.
Thomas made it to state as the No. 9 seed in Division III with a 605 total in the 148s. She benched 205, squatted 130 and deadlifted 270.
Cooke is No. 10 in the 148s with a 610 total. She benched 240, squatted 120 and deadlifted 250.
